About 1 hour from Toulouse, by train or car, Albi and its episcopal city, a jewel listed as World Heritage, are worth the detour, we promise. What if you opted for a (excellent) nearby destination to spend a few hours, a day, a weekend!
You will enjoy your visit to Albi
Visit the Episcopal city of Albi, it means adopting a serene rhythm for a few hours (or more!). Here, the heritage is discovered along the pedestrian streets, Strolling along, a little tourist train but also from the river aboarda barge during summer.
On your program: the “must-haves” that are Sainte-Cécile Cathedral et the Toulouse-Lautrec museum, but also gourmet moments to share and shopping in a preserved town centre, enhanced by a flowering medalist "4 flowers".
Albi, a city built around the river
Panoramic spots
For a good “read” of the city, nothing better than “crossing the bridge” and embracing the magnificent panoramas. On the left bank, the Episcopal City stands proudly. The profile of the city can be seen from the opposite bank. On the right bank, we are in the “end of the bridge district” with the old bridge, the old mills “with their feet in the water” near the New Bridge, the green lung of Pratgraussals…
On the left bank, it is on foot that you have to stroll through the medieval streets.
They will take you through the different historic districts to the Sainte-Cécile cathedral, a masterpiece of southern Gothic, to the Palais de la Berbie, where you can immerse yourself in the work of the Albigensian painter, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and enjoy superb gardens. Place Savene is a jewel to discover, in the shadow of the majestic bell tower of the cathedral.
