Hugues Mayot & L’Arbre Rouge African Jazz Roots – Albi Jazz Festival
Led by saxophonist Hugues Mayot, L'Arbre Rouge recreates the sweet and magical harmony of an extraordinary quintet. Around him, four rare instrumentalists with formidable technique as well as a constant concern for aesthetic openness, from scholarly music to popular music, from European music to non-European music. A resolutely acoustic instrumentation, close to chamber music, recalling the intimacy of a classical quintet. Through writing anchored in chamber jazz, always melodic, research into timbres
and textures, Hugues Mayot gives a unique rhythmic dimension to this miniature orchestra.
African Jazz Roots — Seetu
In 2009, in Saint-Louis, Senegal, Simon Goubert, a major drummer on the European scene, met Ablaye Cissoko, a great virtuoso of the kora and an essential figure in world music. In the process, African Jazz Roots was born. Today as a quintet, magnificently surrounded by three top-flight musicians, the group delivers us, in total connection, a repertoire drawing on the sources of traditional Senegalese music, griot songs, refined ballads... A furiously joyful journey , powerfully acoustic where each of the protagonists finds their space of freedom for an expression that is by turns intimate or spectacular.
