“Echoes from the family of Charles Séré de Rivières, elder brother of the builder of fortifications” by Henri de Barbeyrac
The 19th century saw the rise of the nobility after the Revolution, which would nevertheless have to face the shock of national defeat, the injunctions of the nascent Republic, and anticlericalism. Charles Séré de Rivières was born under the Empire, a relative of Imbert du Bosc, Solages, Toulouse-Lautrec… Baron de Rivières, he married a Tapié-Mengau, daughter of a wealthy landowner from Narbonne.
The story of this couple and their children takes us right up to the end of the century into the happy and unhappy events of this aristocratic family. It helps us better understand the codes and values of a social milieu that is at once brilliant, dreamy and playful, affectionate, faithful to its traditions, but nevertheless fragile in these times of rupture.
Genealogy, preserved letters, portraits and photos found, help us to gather often scattered data, to make a living history.

“The adventures of a young Albigensian at the minor seminary of Castres (1895-1897)” by Guillaume Gras
In 1895, the young Albi native Élie Papailhau joined the Petit Séminaire de Castres. For two years, at an average rate of one letter per week, he wrote to his mother who had remained in Albi. Fortunately preserved, this correspondence allows us to capture the daily life of a student at the Petit Séminaire de Castres.
— Public sessions from 16:30 p.m. to 18:30 p.m., at the auditorium of the Tarn Departmental Archives.
— Thank you for coming to the entrance to the Departmental Archives around 16:15 p.m.
