Les salles du Trésor

Many objects from the XNUMXth to the XNUMXth century are exhibited in the religious treasury housed in the former stronghold of the cathedral dating from the end of the XNUMXth century. Two rooms present a new scenography enhancing the sacred art furniture.
Access to the treasure rooms is at the level of the Great Choir of the cathedral. A spiral staircase will lead you to two spaces, recently renovated: the medieval room of the fourteenth century, vaulted in brick and the "modern" room, former home of the sacristan.

In the first room, reliquaries, chalices, shrines... have found their place alongside major pieces:
* the “Madonna and Child” polyptych and its painted wooden panels. (14th century)
* the “Mappa Mundi”, a precious testimony to the history of Humanity and the world as it was perceived in the 8th century. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is the oldest parchment document representing the world.

In the second room, clothing, liturgical ornaments but also sculptures shine in the windows. Note the embroidery work, embroidery with gold thread in particular, carried out by former sisters of the Sainte-Claire de Millau monastery.
