THE EDIBLE GARDENS: THE INCREDIBLE EDIBLES OF ALBI
Vegetables, fruits and herbs are planted and offered for free harvesting by the residents for visitors. Panels and QR codes give information on the produce and the very best time to harvest it. You will spot these signs in the heart of the greenery, so open your eyes and your taste buds...
In recent years, the City of Albi has become the first "pilot city of France with edibles" to go towards food self-sufficiency in 2020. This citizen participation began in England, the idea being to promote urban agriculture, create social cohesion, reconnect with the nourishing land, plant wherever it's possible and share the crops. The plantations are located in public spaces to create real vegetable gardens open to all. Everyone can come and participate in plantations, maintenance and harvesting.
Albi is one of the first cities to receive the labelisation of "Edible Towns and Villages of France".
