Albi

L'Echappée verte, une idée de randonnée en ville sur le GR 36

L'Echappée verte is a 7 km hike in the heart of Albi, on part of the GR 36 and stretches along the Tarn and the Caussels stream. The walk allows you to stroll in a preserved natural environment.
The starting point of the Echappée verte pedestrian circuit is located a stone's throw from the Episcopal city. After a heritage tour of the city, what could be more enjoyable than immersing yourself in nature in the heart of the city. The route of the Echappée Verte urban hiking circuit is traced in part by the GR36, the path takes place over 7 kilometers in a preserved and maintained natural environment.

It first follows part of the banks of the Tarn located at the foot of the Palais de la Berbie and the Pont-vieux. This section, accessible all year round, allows you to perfectly understand the position of the city in relation to the river. This sector is a place of relaxation, sport but also the starting point for barge rides for mini-cruises during the summer. As a family, you can combine walks, nature, picnics, a real moment of disconnection from the city. Jogging enthusiasts, Echappée verte is also an ideal spot for your morning run.

While walking on the 4 kms on the GR36, new marked sections let you discover new natural atmospheres

>> The Wild Path:
Between Pont-Neuf and Avenue du Loirat, the wild path is exclusively accessible on foot for experienced people (presence of steps, fording, passage over rocks) and is only passable in the summer season. It is recommended to wear closed shoes. An experimental and artificial peat bog of 3000m2 is located in this sector. In this wetland, there are 43 plant species and 23 families of invertebrates.

>> The Mouline Trail:
From Avenue de Loirat to the Planques car park, the Mouline trail runs along the crest of the Caussels embankment, along a vast plain. On this part, the path remains accessible to bicycles and presents no difficulty. It is particularly suitable for family walks.
The Mouline educational pond allows you to observe a rich and fragile ecosystem. Rushes, reeds, water lilies, phragmites... have colonized this space. No less than 14 species of dragonflies are present.
From June to September, the fruit trees established for more than ten years offer walkers the opportunity to pick the fruits of local varieties. Treat yourself !

>> Then the new section of the Bois de Jarlard completes the walk.
A wooden walkway across and the junction is made. This 10-hectare natural space conducive to biodiversity and relaxation, also cycle-friendly, is accessible all year round. Facilities for children have been put in place. A cycling section has existed since 2021 to take advantage of the Jarlard woods. The starting point of the circuit is located at the Episcopal City.
