Musée-Mine Départemental
The last on-site testimony to coal mining in the Tarn, this industrial museum sheds both technical and social light on seven centuries of coal history.
Tremble under the simulation of a firedamp blow.
Find out about the working conditions of coal miners.
Descend into the bowels of the earth.
Located in the heart of the former Carmaux-Albi mining basin, in Cagnac-les-Mines, the Departmental Mining Museum has reopened its doors to the public after 2 years of work.
With its exhibition rooms and its 300 meters of mine galleries, it relates the mining epic of a territory attached to its working memory and pays tribute to all the men and women who, over the centuries, shaped this earth. It is also a valuable tool for passing on to current generations the history of coal mining in the basin.
Come and discover this redesigned museum, anchored in its time with the use of new technologies for sound and lighting, a more modern scenography to welcome the visitor and immerse them in the daily life of the “black faces”. However, the museum does not deny its roots with its specificities and its very particular atmosphere.
New reception, new shop area, redesigned visitor route, and renovated mine galleries: this is the museum to visit!
