Let's meet Frédéric Foix, manager of the restaurant La Planque de l'Evêque in Albi and discover his gourmet universe and his exceptional view of the Sainte-Cécile Cathedral.
Introduce yourself and tell us about your background?
I am Frédéric Foix, I am 49 years old and it was a childhood dream for me to have a restaurant, I did all my studies in catering for 12 years, then I left for technical sales in the automobile, but I always had this dream in mind to open my own restaurant and it was in Albi that it happened. Especially since I was able to open this restaurant with my son who followed the same path as me with a Bac pro Cuisine, he was in the kitchen and I in the dining room, a family project here in Albi, in the bishop's hideout.

For 2 years, we have Lucas who has been one of the best apprentices in the dining room at the MOF level and after obtaining his CAP as a waiter he now goes into the kitchen to obtain his CAP Cuisine.
We opened the restaurant on June 3, 2020 before COVID where I was only able to work for 5 months then after a 7 month break, the reopening and since then it has been working very well.
Where does the name of the restaurant come from?
There are 2 little stories that I enjoy telling children:
- The first is to find the statue of the bishop on a human scale, which is "hidden" in the dining room (we'll let you look for it).
- The second story that I tell and that must continue at the request of the former owner is that when you come out of the restaurant, the building just opposite, on the corner of Rinaldi street, is a former convent of nuns.
What do you offer your visitors?
We offer traditional menus with these fresh seasonal products, I try to work as much as possible with short circuits, we work a lot on fish with our chef who has been renowned in the south for his mastery. The menus change every season. We offer 2 menus: 1 discovery and 1 gourmet harmony with always 2 choices of 2 starters, fish, meat and dessert. We also have daily menus during the week from Wednesday to Friday noon (starter + main course; main course + dessert or 3) for 16€ or 19€.

We have a view of the Sainte-Cécile Cathedral which is quite exceptional!
In summer at the restaurant, you can take advantage of the suspended terrace and the tree-lined garden where everything is shaded. In winter we have the small room which can accommodate 25 to 30 people. We are open from 12 p.m. to 13:30 p.m. and in the evening from 19:30 p.m. to 21:15 p.m. We also welcome groups with weddings and baptisms, we are really a few steps from the Pratgraussals Leisure Center. We are also on the road towards Cordes-sur-Ciel and we have a tourist clientele who, after visiting Albi, appreciate going to this beautiful Tarn bastide.
I also have a website www.laplanquedeleveque.com where I shared all the information to come and see us despite the works of the Old Bridge.
