Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Impressionism

February 6 – June 9, 2024

In 2024, the Toulouse-Lautrec museum joins the Ministry of Culture and the Musée d'Orsay to celebrate 150 years of Impressionism. In parallel with the exhibition “Paris 1874. Inventing Impressionism” which will be held in Paris at the Musée d'Orsay, some 180 works on exceptional loan from the Musée d'Orsay can be discovered in more than 30 museums in France, including the Musée d'Orsay. Toulouse-Lautrec d’Albi.

As part of this event, the Toulouse-Lautrec museum is presenting in its rooms an exceptional exhibition exploring the links between the Impressionists and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Loans from the Musée d'Orsay – two paintings by Auguste Renoir, Charles Le Coeur (1872-1873) and La Liseuse (1874-1876) and one by Berthe Morisot, On a bench in the Bois de Boulogne (1894) – will be presented within the permanent route of the Albi museum. The parallel with paintings by Toulouse-Lautrec will highlight the view that the Albigensian artist had on the work of the Impressionists and their influence on his art. This theme will be explored in greater depth by the mediators during permanent visits to the course, workshop visits and creative courses.

The curator and commissioner of the exhibition “Paris 1974. Inventing Impressionism”, Anne Robbins, will present the exhibition of the Musée d'Orsay in the auditorium of the Toulouse-Lautrec museum on Thursday April 25 at 18:30 p.m., strengthening the collaboration between the Albi museum and the Orsay museum.

In addition to this thematic display, there are changes to the display in different rooms which will give, in small steps, a new aspect to the permanent exhibition of the museum. These modifications will be an opportunity to highlight works kept in reserve.

The series of preparatory works by Maurice Denis for the decor of the Champs-Elysées theater will thus once again be visible in theaters, for the first time since their restoration.
