After visiting Albi, be sure to shine around. Green nature and picturesque villages are at the gates of the city. Our suggestion: follow the Tarn Valley and go up along the river. Combine the architectural stops with the green landscapes of the valley and why not take a swimming break in the waters of the Tarn. Enjoy your Albigensian stroll!
A FUN ITINERARY FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY IN THE TARN VALLEY
On the program, a loop of about 70 km to walk along the Tarn, follow the meanders, immerse yourself in nature at the gates of Albi, enjoy sports and nautical activities.
The Ambialet Peninsula
To get to the starting point, take the road along the Tarn towards Millau/Saint-juéry and walk through the long narrow tunnel to find the Ambialet peninsula, named “Small City of Character” in 2018.

The Cabannes trail
Start this beautiful sunny day with a little hike on the hut trail – 9kms. You will have to pass through fields, as well as woods and even climb some hills but it is really worth it! You will find yourself in height, with in front of you one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the Tarn Valley.
Small +: For those who prefer to start the morning more quietly, I advise you to take the Stations of the Cross, starting from the lower town up towards the Priory. Arrived at the top, a spectacular view is also offered to you and guided tours of the monastery are organized by the Tourist Office.
After a long ride, it's obvious that bellies start to growl and there's nothing better than a picnic on the banks of the Tarn to replenish your energy before the next activity! – For food lovers, you can visit to local producers, many in the valley.
The base of Ambialet
After the meal break, go to the Ambialet Base for a moment of escape. Rent kayaks, canoes or paddleboards and enjoy the freshness of the river! Discover many activities
You can choose several rental formulas to suit the whole family.
The Avalates
To end the day, I recommend that you get back in the car and take a jump to Avalats. This quiet place on the banks of the Tarn is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the last hours of sunshine before heading back to Albi.
