Château de Castelnau-de-Lévis

The castle of Castelnau-de-Lévis, formerly Castelnau-de-Bonnafous was founded in 1235. Its remains undoubtedly dominate the medieval village at its feet and the valley. From the promontory, a magnificent panorama opens up in front of you.
The castle of Castelnau-de-Lévis was built in the XNUMXth century by Sicard Alaman, powerful vassal of the count of Toulouse Raymond VII; it represented an advanced bastion of the possessions of Toulouse (north of the river Tarn) facing royalty (south of the Tarn).

Built on a rocky peak called “puy de Bonnafous”, the castle was called Castelnau-de-Bonnafous for a long time, before the Lévis family inherited it and gave it its name. A village was built at the foot of the walls at the same time.

Its high tower, 40 meters high, is very recognizable and easy to spot. (Access to the summit is prohibited).
