Description

Les Avalats: an old village!

The Saint-Benoît des Avalats church appears for the first time as a beneficiary of bequests in a will of Garsinde, Countess of Toulouse, written in 972. A monoxyl coffin was discovered exposed in the old washhouse certainly from the cemetery surrounding the 'church.

The town depended on the abbey of Saint-Benoît de Castres, then subsequently on the chapter of SainteCécile d'Albi, around 1380. At the same time, a certain Bertrand des Avalats, from the Vassals family (250 years of lordship ), co-signed the charters of the Viscount of Trencavel (XNUMXth century).
