Hike in the village with two bell towers.
Route details
Description
I am neither a wall steeple, nor a dungeon steeple, nor a twisted steeple, but
a simple steeple, squat, square, blind, a country sanctuary with
a touch of mountain sobriety with a slate roof.
The ringing of my single bell resounds over the surrounding countryside,
I am alone. For centuries I have sounded the Angelus and the highlights of
village life: baptisms, weddings, funerals.
A master craftsman, Hypolite Boutet, founder in Albi, made me in 1852, I
baptized, I received a first name, Marie-Victoire. I'm adorned with inscriptions
engraved. There are litanies in Latin which are liturgical prayers. I maintained
with each of the inhabitants an intimate relationship, joyful and sad.
Between 1830 and 1914, churches were built or rebuilt with frenzy.
The country is covered with a white mantle of churches.
In Fraissines, the Fabrique (group of influential people in the village) held
absolutely to rebuild the church, I rang one last time, a real
tear. A new steeple has risen to the sky. The old bell tower will be
preserved but the bell was moved to the new bell tower.
I'm still there. I am filled with gratitude and pride to hear the
hikers exclaim: “How curious are the two steeples in this village! »
