Description

In the town of Assac at an altitude of 460m, 10 wind turbines, huge masts,
overlook the village and the Tarn valley below. Five wind turbines
are erected at the start of the route, at a place called "La Garrigade" and five
others at "Puech-D'Al-Lun".
The wind whispers that the stream of Gaycre had twelve watermills
over 19 km. Men for centuries have turned the sawmills,
processed plant fibers, extracts walnut oil, beechnut oil,
flour from cereals and chestnuts.
The walls and rocky outcrops, very old rocks, whisper
the history of Assac, the underground passages, the Castelas, the crossroads,
mills and millers.

Six educational panels line the path: the first, at the exit of the village, presents the wind turbines. The second presents the trees of the Gaycre valley, it is positioned just after the first footbridge. The third has for theme the mills specifying their economic role and their functioning. It is placed at the level of the ruin of the lower mill. The fourth concerns invertebrates, the small animals of our waterways and is located before the second footbridge. Just after this footbridge, the 5th panel evokes the hidden fauna of the Gaycre valley. Then going up the path towards Assac, is the 6th panel on the dry moor.

This project was made possible thanks to the participation of several partners: the SIAVT, the department of Tarn and the company CGNEE.
