Located at the gates of Albi and bordered to the south by the river Tarn, the town of Lescure d'Albigeois stretches between plain and hills.

Description
For more than a millennium, it has developed around a historic town centre, former stronghold of the papacy and seigniorial stronghold. For several generations, its economy was based on the mix of industrial input (steel and mining) and especially market gardening, perpetuating a local tradition and culture (Lescure onion). The paths of the plain will make you discover the agricultural landscapes and the rich historical heritage of the town.
Le village
Some archaeological remains testify to an occupation in the Gallo-Roman era. But it is around the year one thousand that a castrum rises, near the Tarn and the Coules stream. A castle then exists, dominating the fortified village which settles at the foot. Originally dependent on the counts of Toulouse and more particularly on Constance, wife of the Capetian king Robert the Pious, the seigniory was subsequently passed on to the former tax collector of the king, Pope Sylvester II. From 1012, Lescure took on the status of a papal stronghold until the revolution. Of this fortified complex, only the gate known as the “Clock Tower” remains.
